Transition words 方向燈

今天,我們要來強調一個輕鬆讀懂英文文章的關鍵法則,適合自認單字量不夠又要看長篇文章的讀者: 找transition words 轉折、連接語。

什麼是轉折語? For example, however, in addition, and as well as, etc.

我叫這些轉折詞叫文章中的方向燈。開車左轉右轉時需要打方向燈吧? 你要右轉,就要先打燈提醒別人你要右轉了。轉折語的功用也在此,你用轉折語告訴讀者你文章接下來的方向。

(eg)  Would you like to have dinner with me after work?

I’d like to, however, I have a family emergency.

你到底要不要去? 不要。前面的回答是舖陳,但”however”後面所接的句子才是你的重點與文意的重點。
